If your subdivision has only an HOA: In this case, the HOA is there to make sure assets like the pool, playgrounds, and common areas are well maintained, in addition to making sure the CC&Rs are upheld by the residents. If the home you’re looking at is in a community that has both CDD and HOA: The Homeowners Association deals with things like the overall condition of the neighborhoods and ensures the covenants and restrictions are adhered to regarding the appearance of the homes in the community. In an HOA, a homeowner is also subject to certain Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions (CC&Rs), which outline what a homeowner may or may not do with the property. Make sure to inquire when the bond will be paid off, because that will leave you with only the O&M portion to pay.Įach HOA (or Homeowners Association) can vary a bit based on the community or subdivision, but an HOA fee is basically a predetermined set fee that each homeowner in the community pays monthly, quarterly, or annually to help maintain the community. The bond portion has an end date similar to a mortgage. Usually a portion of the CDD collected is the actual bond repayment, and the balance is the continued Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of the community. If you have a mortgage, this is amortized into your payment. The CDD shows as an assessment on the homeowners’ tax bill each year and is collected by the county tax collector. That “loan” is repaid by the homeowners in the community, with each property charged an annual amount. We have several wonderful planned CDD communities in Northeast Florida, including Fleming Island Plantation, Nocatee, Eagle Landing, and Julington Creek Plantation.Ī CDD allows the developer to finance the costs with a CDD bond through tax-free municipal bonds. Most planned communities have a CDD, which means they normally have desirable amenities, possibly activity staff and community sponsored events. So what’s the difference between CDD and HOA?Ī CDD (or Community Development District) is basically a type of government entity that provides infrastructure such as roads, utilities, and amenities to specific planned unit development (PUD). One important question for home buyers: Does the home you’re interested in require CDD or HOA fees? These fees can affect your monthly payment, and there might also be community restrictions to consider. Home buyers, especially first-time home buyers, have many things to consider.

NC: I already made a Lost in Translation joke in North, so let’s move on. NC (voiceover): Hey, look, Scarlett Johansson is his sister. (We see a brief cut of Alex’s sister Molly, played by Scarlett Johansson) This is because nothing about this movie has anything to do with Home Alone, despite that it carries the name “Home Alone.” So, why does it carry the name “Home Alone”? BECAUSE IT’S A GODDAMN HORRIBLE MOVIE! So, it turns out Alex has the chicken pox, which means he has to stay home from school. None of the original characters are in this movie. (Cut to Alex walking home through the neighborhood in the dark) Hess: (hands Alex the toy car she accidentally took at the airport) Consider this your payment. NC (voiceover): Sheesh, this woman is as compassionate as a punch to my ball sack. Hess: So you can tell the neighborhood I stiffed you on a snow removal job? Your word is worthless.Īlex: Sorry, there’ll be no charge, Mrs. (The Wicked Witch of the West theme music from The Wizard of Oz plays here) We had an understanding, and you broke it. (We are introduced to the main character, Alex Pruit, who is shoveling snow for Mrs. (We cut to such a neighborhood) Oh! What a shock! And, seeing how it’s a John Hughes movie, my guess is it’s a Chicago suburb where everyone is rich, quirky and white. NC (voiceover): So they get the number of the cab through their…Glove-cam…as they pin down the area where the woman was dropped off. Abanazar however follows Aladdin back to China, where it becomes apparent that in a contest of brains our hero hasn't a chance. Under sentence of death from the emperor, Aladdin follows the palace to Morocco with the aid of the genie of the ring, and, obtaining the lamp, he gets the palace and the princess back to their wonted places. He is now the Genie's new master – and he quickly takes the palace (complete with the princess and her mother-in-law) to Morocco. The Widow Twankey is now the Royal Mother-in-law - and manages to dispose of that rusty old lamp to Abanazar (disguised as a pedlar). In no time at all Aladdin is a prince, and happily married to the princess of his dreams. The Widow Twankey starts to clean the rusty old lamp which is all her son has brought home - thus summoning another, much more powerful genie who makes it clear he will do anything for anyone unless they make unkind remarks about his green colouring. The upshot of this finds Aladdin trapped in the cave - where he inadvertently summons the genie of the ring - a sympathetic young lady who readily agrees to take him to his mother's house, after a few tears over the sad fact that "Genies have no mothers". He quickly convinces the widow and her son (neither of whom is very bright) that he is the boy's long lost uncle and that he will make Aladdin rich. Everyone, including the emperor himself, has a pretty shrewd idea of what has happened – but, as he explains in song to his daughter, "Loves's a luxury" that royals must forgo for reasons of state.Ībanazar's arrival seems like just the thing. When he returns from his quest the Widow is relieved that he is alive, but very concerned that the young couple are in love. This is just the kind of challenge that Aladdin likes, so he rushes off to try to catch a glimpse of the Princess. The emperor's herald proclaims that anyone looking upon the Princess Badroulbadour as she passes on her way to the baths will be instantly executed. The ghostly chorus of the spirits takes us into the next scene, where Aladdin himself is discussing with his mother the virtues of idleness. He is somewhat bemused to discover that the source lies in a Chinese Laundry in Peking, and can be retrieved only by the launderess's ne'er-do-well son Aladdin. The wicked wizard Abanazar, in his desert home in Morocco, summons the spirits to tell him how he may obtain the magic lamp, the source of all power. In fact, the cast recording memorializes several rarely-recorded aspects of a traditional Aladdin pantomime, although the plot has fewer gratuitous twists, and the songs are more concerned with plot development than is usually the case in these productions. "Instead of writing a pantomime – a form of theatre about which I know very little – I decided to make Aladdin a musical, and based it on the original story in the Arabian nights." ĭespite this, the show closely follows the traditional pantomime story line, including the " pantomime dame" character of Widow Twankey, renamed Tuang Kee Chung. Sandy Wilson was apparently asked to write a conventional pantomime in this tradition, but he demurred. The Aladdin story (sometimes combined with Ali Baba and other Arabian Nights tales) has been a traditional pantomime subject in England for nearly two hundred years, and numerous versions of this tale have been presented. It makes me wonder if Hemingway longed to be there in that bar, or in a place like it, when his own insomnia struck sleeplessness, after all, seems less of a burden in a clean, well-lighted place. The light is very good and also, now, there are shadows of the leaves, he tells another waiter in the story. The waiter takes comfort in the brightness of the restaurant, even in the nighttime he doesn’t want to leave and head back to his empty house, where he knows he will lie awake until morning. In “A Clean Well Lighted Place,” an old waiter muses about insomnia: Many must have it, he says, to comfort himself. It threaded through the maudlin letters he wrote to other writers, and was entrenched in the characters of his stories. Hemingway struggled with insomnia his entire life. And I know, in the space where darkness lies heavy on my breast, that Hemingway and I are, in this weariest and most desperate way, alike. is when I begin my own frantic decline into semi-madness. is when I begin to wildly calculate the hours I have left until my children start stirring and I am forced, against my will, to begin my day. Lack of sleep does funny things to a person. Instead, when insomnia strikes, I consider how Hemingway unwillingly courted the ghosts of his daylight in the stillest hours of the night. When I cannot sleep, I do not go through Hemingway’s novels, one of which I loved enough to have the title tattooed on my forearm (how my mother wept!). But t here is something about the plaintiveness in Hemingway’s prose that drew me in. What I find absolute and masterful in Hemingway’s style, many others I know find stark, plain, even sexist. We are strange bedfellows, in a way: While other women in my literature courses preferred to discuss Virginia Woolf or Flannery O’Connor, I was often hiding in the back row, adrift in the pages of The Sun Also Rises. and I am wide-awake and agitated, I channel Ernest Hemingway. Her particular brand of finger style playing bears an essence of the folk music she adores, and her ability for songwriting, she says, is “a gift that was given innately and not acquired by effort.” Her talent has made room for her among music artists such as Carolyn Hester, John McEuen (The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band,) and John Paul White (The Civil Wars.) She continues to surprise her peers and audiences through her unique gift of music with songs such as, “Bird on a String,” “All the Crown Jewels” (unreleased,) and, most recently, “My Head Is Full of You” (unreleased.) Her voice is often compared with Dolly Parton, Joan Baez, and Emmylou Harris, but it is clear that Nina’s timbre is of singular quality all her own. Nina’s journey in music is ever-unfolding. JI purchased yet again the Nik Collection now referred to as the DXO Nik Collection. Then in 2017 I read the good news, DXO Software had acquired the Nik Collection and would resume development. I plugged along with the plugins which fortunately continued to work despite Windows and Adobe updates. This meant Google had lost interest in the Nik Software and it would no longer get updated. Worse than that though I knew what this really meant. Im ok with free if it was free to me too. That’s right I spent $750 for plugins that were now free to the world. Again life was good until I received yet another email from Jean that Google was now giving away the Nik Collection for free. There was a plus side I wanted a copy to use at a second location so the $149 wasn’t a difficult decision. I was bummed because i spent so much and admittedly this put the software within reach of a lot more people reducing the uniqueness of the software. About a year later I got a message from a friend Jean Ramirez at Jean Ramirez Photography that Google had bought Nik Software and they were now offering the collection for $149.95. To buy the plugins individually was very expensive so I decided to buy the entire package called the “Nik Collection” for $499.95.
